Christian SRE is a wonderful opportunity to teach the beliefs, values and practices of the Christian Faith as taught in the Bible. Special Religious Education (SRE) has been part of NSW schooling since 1849. The current NSW Education Act requires that time be allocated for religious education in all government schools.
Volunteer SRE Teachers are authorised by their local Churches and trained to teach in our local Public Schools. Teachers use an approved curriculum (see this website for curriculum choices) and attend regular training courses including child protection (through individual denominations or Hunter Christian SRE).
All of our volunteer teachers find it a joy and privilege to teach the children in their classes the Christian faith. They feel encouraged and supported by the team that makes up the Newcastle SRE Board and the local churches.
Not all of us can teach or be the treasurer of the board, but we each have different gifts and resources that we can contribute. Maybe yours is prayer? or financial support? administration? etc.
Romans 12: 4-8
4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
We are always welcoming new people into our team, so maybe you can be the next!
